The Lifestyle Vulnerability Assessment

Every Arctos engagement experience begins the same way — with a private, intelligence-led assessment of how a family actually lives, to understand their vulnerabilities and exposure. Here is how it unfolded for the Kaplans.

The Assessment Session

An intelligence professional. An adaptive platform. Four core domains.

Nathan uses Arctos' proprietary assessment platform — powered by an adaptive AI questionnaire — to lead the Kaplans through the initial session. The conversation moves through four core domains of personal risk.

01

Digital Visibility & Family Exposure

Social media, children's activity, public footprint.

02

Physical Environment & Routines

Home security, school logistics, daily predictability.

03

Travel Patterns & Mobility

Frequency, destinations, movement while abroad.

04

Cyber & Financial Protection

Email security, authentication, access controls, fraud safeguards.

~30
Targeted prompts designed to assess targeting likelihood, accessibility, exploitability, and response readiness — capturing the family's habits, patterns, and online presence.

All responses are securely recorded in the Arctos Platform and combined with an independent digital footprint analysis to generate the formal assessment.

Behind the Scenes

A comprehensive online review.

Using information gleaned during the in-person assessment, the Arctos Intelligence Platform conducts a deep online threat review to surface what is already visible — and what could be used against the family.

  • Social media and other online accounts maintained by the family
  • Exposed personal identifiable information (passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, DOBs, SIN numbers)
  • Negative or threatening chatter about the family
The Findings

The Kaplans log in. The picture comes into focus.

Shortly after the session, Emily is notified that the Lifestyle Vulnerability Assessment is complete and ready for review in the Arctos Platform. She and James log in together.

Detailed Findings

What the assessment surfaced.

01 Digital & Identity Exposure

  • Information about where their children go to school is available online as a result of a 2024 donation to the school by Emily and James.
  • The family's current home address is searchable on Canada 411 and 14 data broker sites.

02 Cyber & Account Security Gaps

  • Primary email accounts protected by SMS-based MFA — susceptible to SIM swap and social engineering.
  • Emily's password for banking portals and other sensitive accounts has been breached and leaked online, identified across multiple platforms.

03 Physical & Routine Predictability

  • The family maintains a consistent school, work, and extracurricular routine.
  • The residence is accessible with no alarm system or other security controls.
  • The family does not conduct background reviews on individuals with access to the household (contractors, cleaning personnel).

04 Travel Exposure

  • The family engages in frequent international travel, sometimes to medium-risk destinations without structured pre-travel security planning.
  • Movement patterns and destinations occasionally inferable through social media activity of friends they travel with.
Recommended Actions

A clear, prioritized path forward.

Each recommendation maps to a specific finding above — sequenced by risk, ease of execution, and impact.

01 24×7 Digital Monitoring Included in Membership

  • Continuous online monitoring for exposed personal identifiable information (passwords, email, phone, DOB, SIN)
  • Identity and negative-exposure monitoring across data broker listings and emerging online threats
  • Detection of threats, harassment, and negative chatter about the family
  • Surveillance for unauthorized photos of the family posted to social media

02 Cyber Hardening — Critical Controls

  • Transition all primary accounts to app-based MFA; remove SMS dependency
  • Implement password vaulting and unique-credential protocols
  • Introduce executive-level email and impersonation monitoring

03 Physical Security Enhancements — Targeted Upgrades

  • Review and upgrade residential access controls
  • Establish basic travel security protocols for family trips

04 Family Awareness & Behaviour Training

  • Age-appropriate guidance for children on social media use and location sharing
  • Practical protocols for posting, travel, and digital communication
  • Clear family-wide response playbook for unusual events
